Description
"Mies used his concepts from the Barcelona Pavilion in a residential commission of 1930, the Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic_access. The same regular grid of chromium-steel cruciform columns supports the roof, and polished slabs of marble serve as walls to define interior spaces in an open plan. Because of the hilly site, the Tugendhat House is two stories, set firmly within a series of terraces cut into the slope; but thanks to its largely glass walls, the predominant view is out to the surrounding landscape. Color on the interior is subdued, confined to the natural hues of the finish materials and a white linoleum floor, so that changing light and colors of the outside world determine much of the color inside the house." -- Moffett, M., Fazio, M., Wodehouse, L.
