Description
This was a student project by Abul Abdullah for Nader Tehrani and Luke Kautz's ARCH 844 course, Spring 2006.
"I was interested in developing an embedding system from parametrically changed circles and their extrusions. Various shapes and volumes can be generated by changing the parameter of circle, where a circle can be morphed to a chamfer square, a chamfer rectangle or an ellipse. The mutability of this system with the idea of architectural rhetoric as corollary backdrop was then applied for designing the IFI "Issam Fares Institute" for public Policy and International Affairs at American University of Beirut where all the parts have been generated using this system.
The central volume was generated from parametrically changed outlines of different program shapes in different levels. The piercing parts were also been generated from the parametrically changed shapes of the site forces and factors: the Oval at south, the Mediterranean at north, big trees at west and major student circulation alley between upper campus and middle campus at east.
Regarding the program, public functions were put in lower levels and private functions in the upper to ensure a monastic environment in the private researcher's office zone, individual researcher's office and out door terraces." - Abul Abdullah
This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. The effort to preserve and digitize drawings in the Student Archives was sponsored in part by the Graham Foundation.
