"Switch Space proposes a new looping transit system for Ohio and the Midwest. Traditionally, the middle is not activated and movement through it prioritizes efficiency. The loops reactivate the vast middle by providing new infrastructure that attracts regional economies to a localized point. At these points, existing economies are amplified and layered resulting in new heterogeneous economic landscapes. The concentration of these economies around the small scale, local loops prevents massive urban growth in Ohio, maintaining the regional aesthetic of open landscapes. At the scale of the Midwest, the looping strategy facilitates movement between urban centers, encouraging the connectivity of mega-regions." ---Emma Cuciurean-Zapanand, Christine Yankel This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University by Emma Cuciurean-Zapan and Christine Yankel. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present.
