Description
One of the biggest design challenges for the Suzhou Museum was to blend traditional Eastern (Suzhou-style) architecture with the freshness of contemporary Western architecture. This was achieved with a generous use of glass and light in the modernist tradition, as well as the application of Chinese motifs such as a large garden with an artificial pond and a Chinese footbridge. The museum contains 7,000 square meters of exhibition galleries, a 200-seat auditorium, a museum shop, administrative offices, a research library and study center, as well as extensive art storage facilities and several gardens. --Barboza, D.
