Description
The State capitol It is surrounded by government and civic buildings, including: State Capitol, the City & County Building, and other institutions such as the Denver Art Museum, Denver Public Library, Colorado State History Museum, Colorado State Judicial Building, and the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building.
The designer of the Colorado State capitol was Elijah E. Myers, who also designed the capitols of Michigan, Idaho, and Texas. This Neoclassical structure utilizes many native Colorado materials: sandstone for the foundation, granite for the exterior walls, marble for floors and stairs, and rose onyx for wainscoting. The dome is gilded with Colorado gold.
