The Solar Pond Building is Herrick Archives Building Number S 110. It is a circular metal corn crib constructed late in 1977 or early 1978 at the Farm Science Review site at Don Scott Field. It was erected for use in connection with a study of "Salt- Gradient Solar Pond Develpoment" under a project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy with Professor Carl Nielsen as the project supervisor. The building was initially used for drying grain during the Farm Science Review, using heat from the adjacent solar pond. Since the move of the Farm Science Review to Madison County, the building has been used to house instruments used in the solar pond investigations. The building is a typical metal structure some 10 to 12 feet in diameter.
