Pillnitz Castle is located on the River Elbe, about 8 km upstream from the Blue Wonder Bridge. It was built by the Saxon architect M.D. Pöppelmann by order of King August der Starke. Within the site, two Chinoiserie style palaces, Wasserpalais and Bergpalais, are arranged parallel to the river Elbe. The castle grounds are quite extensive and include many formal gardens. The castle is now open to the public as a museum, named Kunstgewerbemuseum Dresden.
