Butterfield resigned from the project briefly in 1882 and finally in 1884. The building was completed under the supervision of Joseph Reed, who designed many public buildings in Melbourne. Nonetheless, St Paul's is still considered Butterfield's final masterpiece. It is Gothic Revival in style, and is located at Swanston Street and Flinders Street corner.
