Description
This view shows the Porta Pinciana as wrapped by the artist Christo, January 1974. The artist used woven polypropylene fabric and Dacron rope to cover both sides, the top and the arches of the wall. The installation lasted 40 days. The approximately 20 kilometer wall was built during the reign of Emperor Aurelian (270-275 CE), to protect the area from invading barbarians. Rectangular towers were placed at regular intervals as a line of defense, while round towers marked the gates.
