Parc de la Ciutadella was designed in 1872 by the architect Josep Fontsere. The park was one of the first to be designed specifically as a public park. In 1885, the park was modified to hold the 1888 Universal Exhibition. The 30-hectare park is now home to several museums and the Parc Zoologic, the Barcelona Zoo.
The Cascada, a triumphal arch with waterfall and fountain was built for the 1888 Universal exhibition.
