The Pantheon was originally the church of Saint Genevieve. It is now a mausoleum for the interment of great Frenchmen including Mirabeau, Voltaire, Rousseau, Hugo, Zola, etc. It was modeled on the Pantheon in Rome, but it has markedly different proportions from the archetype Pantheon in Rome. Four piers which support the central dome (which is a triple-shell dome) were later strengthened by Rondelet to prevent collapse of the structure.
