Description
"The structure is 365m in diameter, with a circumference of one kilometer and a maximum height of 50 m. The Dome is suspended from a series of twelve 100m steel masts, held in place by more than 70km of high-strength steel cable which in turn support the Teflon-coated glass fiber roof." http://www.richardrogers.co.uk/work/all_projects/millennium_experience The cable network to which the cladding is attached consists of a series of radial cables, in pairs, which span 82 feet (25 meters) between nodes supported by hanger cables connecting them to the tops of the masts. The nodes are also connected by circumferential cables which provide stability. The downward curving radial cables are pre-stressed against the hanger cables and this makes them almost straight and converts the surface of the dome into a series of faceted panels." http://www.architectureweek.com/2003/0326/building_1-2.html
