The Mercati Generali Redevelopment project represents the first adaptive re-use of a historical site in Rome. Located near the Roman Forum and Coliseum, Mercati Generali will feature about 830,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment in five areas: the Large Mediatheque for a comprehensive bookstore, high-tech public research library and meeting rooms; the Modern Baths for a recreational area that will combine health clubs, sporting goods and equipment retailers, virtual gaming arcades and water sports; the City of Tastes for a collection of restaurants and markets; Performance and Entertainment Spaces; and Recinto for a large public square that will feature specialty and fashion stores, art galleries, and markets.
