This was an undergraduate student project by Ryan Whitacre for Stephen Turk's ARCH 441 course, Autumn 2004. This project involved collaborative housing for the media student. "Housing for the media school student takes on two approaches: a physical connection and a remote one. The physical connection is created by establishing a large movable, modulated housing environment where students become roommates with the same students with which they are currently grouped to complete studio assignments. A wireless, remote connection can be established between the student and numerous other sites: the centralized media school for remote lectures, collaborations with students at other housing sites across the city, and communication with clients around the world. This remote communication is possible through sitting the housing at local television stations and their digital television transmission towers, whose broadcast bandwidth can be used to transmit teleconferencing and project data. The working modules attach to the front of the vertical neighborhood grid and include an LCD window where each student's work is displayed. Each LCD window placed in the grid creates a pixel array where broadcasts from the on-site television station can be shown or student work can be displayed in an extremely large billboard to not only give recognition to the student, but advertise for the school." --Ryan Whitacre This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. The effort to preserve and digitize drawings in the Student Archives was sponsored in part by the Graham Foundation.
