Description
Inspired by New York's Chrysler Building, the Marine Building was the first modern skyscraper in downtown Vancouver and it was, for more than a decade, the tallest building in the British Empire. Typical of the Art Deco period, it is decorated with many materials and designs; its walls and polished brass doors depict sea snails, skates, crabs, turtles, carp, scallops, seaweed and sea horses. The building was the BOMA TOBY Award winner in 2003 in the Historical Building category. Keywords: Canada, British Columbia, Vancouver, multistory buildings, high-rise buildings, skyscrapers, exterior views. Submitted by Misun Hur.
