Description
The art museum building in the Vienna Ringstrasse was opened in 1891, with the monumental building conceived of as a memorial to Habsburg patronage. The architects Gottfried Semper (1803-1879) and Karl von Hasenauer (1833-1894) designed the building in the Italian Renaissance style with a rectangular plan, sandstone facade, and a 60-meter-high dome. The museum is divided into eight different collections, some of which are housed in the Hofburg and in Schönbrunn Palace. Keywords: Kunsthistorische, main building, Maria Theresien-Platz.
