Description
The Kastellet, or Citadel, is the culmination of the fortifications, bastions, and ramparts of Copenhagen. King Christian IV started building the fortifications in 1626. It was completed by the time Swedish King Karl X Gustav invaded in 1659. Shortly after, the fortifications were modernized. They were dismantled around 1860. It was captured by Nazis in World War II.
