Description
The Finnish Science Center, better known as Heureka, is a large exhibition building that facilitates the development of scientific education. In 1985, an architectural competition for the building was held. The winners of the competition were Finnish architects Mikko Heikkinen and Markku Komonen. The building was awarded Concrete Structure of 1988 and Steel Structure of 1989. A conifer park containing examples of all of the conifers of the northern hemisphere is located on the south side of the building. In front of the main entrance is the world's largest stretch of aperiodic paving. This image was taken in 1996 by John Schooley, FAIA, during an architectural tour of Finland.
