Description
In 1998, the restoration of the Christian Science Publishing Society building began, with plans for a new library and garden entrance facing Massachusetts Avenue. This area was formerly enclosed by a 14-foot-high wall. Significant portions of the wall were removed to allow for public access. The original front gate was retained to maintain the connection between the historic and contemporary aspects of the Library. The new entrance and garden contain seating areas, trees, and a water wall and pond.
The Mary Baker Eddy Library opened in 2002. It was designed to be a place where the life, ideas, and achievements of Mary Baker Eddy could be explored. This 19th-century New England woman pioneered such fields as business, education, and publishing.
