Description
Designed by Urbanus and Studio Pei-Zhu, this piece of the Olympic Green is a billboard for the technology powering the "Digital Olympis." Three of the four structurally independent slabs house computers and other electronic equipment for coordinating and broadcasting the Olympics. In the long term, it was intended that some of the ground floor public space would become a virtual museum or showcase for Chinese electronic manufacturers. Hence the facade's sliced up appearance, inteded to evoke a ciruit board, bar code, or binary machine language. Pei hoped it would be always "under renovation...evolving with technology."
