Description
The architectural design of the Capitol follows the traditional pattern of the nineteenth century planning for public buildings; a modified and refined Renaissance style. The commanding feature is the central, towering dome, which is 275 feet above the ground floor. It is constructed of steel and stone and covered with 23 carat gold. In addition, four smaller domes rise from the four corners of the capitol building.
