The 'People Tree' sculpture is located in a plaza adjacent to Lake Kittamaqundi and the Rouse Company headquarters building. Columbia, Maryland, was developed as a garden city in the early 1960's. "Jim Rouse designed Columbia to enhance interaction between people. This included many community mail boxes so neighbors would be sure to interact." The city has 5,300 acres of permanent open space.
