Description
"A gallery is situated under the beam, along the full length of the main-axis. This gallery gives access to all houses. Also the offices are situated on this arcade, its glass façades creating a transparency. One of the charms of the Vondelpark is its 'narrow' beginning (its enlargement further on gives it a fake allure), this together with the eventual direct connection with the prison in the extension of the park, made it undesirable to interfere in the original design of the park. The corner marked by a (low) tower which makes it a part of the typical Amsterdam tradition 'failed' skyscrapers, which compensate their lack of real height with an abundance of tower like motifs, such as Hotel American, the Hirsch Building, City, Hotel Centraal, de Telegraaf building etc." --http://www.oma.nl/
