"Rental apartment building consisting of four row houses each containing six apartments of various sizes: cellar, first story, second story, third story, roof story with roof garden, laundries, and in Houses 3 and 4 drying rooms and attics." --Kirsch, K. New York: Rizzoli, p.47 The Weissenhof Siedlung was a model housing program that featured designs by many important early Modernist architects. Within five months in 1927, 21 buildings containing 63 housing units were constructed. The program was part of the exhibition "Die Wohnung" ("The flat") organized by the German Werkbund. Mies van der Rohe was the Master planner and Coordinator. Other architects included Walter Gropius, J.J.P. Oud, Hans Scharoun, Bruno Taut, Peter Behrens, Hans Poelzig, Richard Décker, Adolf Schneck, Mart Stam, Adolph Rading, Max Taut, Ludwig Hilberseimer, Josef Frank and Victor Bourgeois.
