Description
This is a student project by Amanda Thomas from Autumn 2010 for ARCH 641. The first year of the graduate program is the foundation year. Studios address form and technique, and are supported by courses in architectural history, construction, and structures. Design projects are small scaled with elemental programs on abstract sites. First quarter projects begin by addressing the human body through furniture, extend to a single dwelling at the end of the quarter, and a collective program on a prototypical site during the second quarter. During the third quarter, first-year students join second-year students in vertical studios that engage a range of scales, programs, and sites, from the design of a single-family sustainable house to urban agriculture masterplans.
