Description

This was a student project by Michaila Adrian for Jack Boswell and Katherine Jenkins' course LARCH 6910 in Autumn 2017.
This project was to create a memorial to limestone within this flat, inner-city, parking lot. This design abstracts the dramatic topography produced by the limestone quarrying process through large limestone ridges and creates a destination within downtown Columbus. The limestone ridges add vertical interest while allowing and encouraging interaction. The ground plane is comprised of limestone planks which intertwine with switch grasses to define a path though the site. The fine textures of the grasses contrast the hard face of the limestone. Ginkgo trees are arranged in two bosques at the entrances to create a threshold that opens up in the middle, inviting people to stay in the site. The ginkgo trees also add beautiful, seasonal interest.
