Description

In 1966, the Italian architect Renzo Zingone executed an urban project known as Zingonia. It is located between two industrial centers, Milan and Bergamo. Although it followed the "new town" concept from other European countries and the United States, it differed from most European new towns. It was a money-making private venture rather than a policy-serving public project. Zingonia was developed as an industrial, commercial, and housing complex. The residential sector is separated from the industrial sector by a park, civic center, soccer stadiums, swimming pools and tennis courts. Today, Zingonia is home to more than 50,000 residents and its success has attracted American firms such as Pfizer and International Harvester.
