Description
Brasov, a fortified town from the 13th century, was one of the important commercial and manufacturing centers in Romania. In the second half of the 19th century, most of its fortifications were pulled down and the town began to sprawl. Presently, its cultural activities, resorts, and picturesque surroundings have helped Brasov become a primarily tourist destination. The White Tower was erected between 1460-1494. It has a semicircular shape, is 14 m high, and has four levels. This image was taken in 1970 by John Schooley, FAIA, during an Urban America tour. Urban America tours allowed architects and planners to visit planned communities and meet professionals involved in their planning and continued development.
